Spell for Calling Out River Horses<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

I step into the river when the sky\r\n
is damp charcoal, swirl with my hands\r\n
the moon-freckled water. Dip my head\r\n
\r\n
into the river, bring it up\r\n
and spit an arc towards the silhouette\r\n
trees in their absence, let the water\r\n
\r\n
fall to the rushes. Between my fish-pale legs\r\n
the river horse rises. Slick skinned\r\n
from the silt, halterless as an otter\r\n
\r\n
it rises. I will hold forever\r\n
to its marble neck as the carousel is starting,\r\n
a circuit of black horses, wide\r\n
\r\n
as the oceans. Past lonely warehouses\r\n
and gantries of the river, the horses\r\n
are swimming, the river horses racing\r\n
\r\n
the current. They describe a carousel\r\n
as wide as the oceans, a tide of seal-black horses.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
